Zoho Projects, the online project management software from Zoho, has long had a basic Gantt chart generating function that graphically represents your project tasks along a 'project timeline', but the Zoho Projects guys have just released some really cool new functionality that takes this to a new level: interactive Gantt charts!
Milestones
Zoho Projects Gantt Charts function now includes Milestones as well as tasks, so that you can view the complete hierarchy: milestones, task lists and the task inside the task lists, all in one location.
Dependencies
A dependency is basically when one task depends on another, so for example, you cannot start one task until another one finishes. An example might be basic software testing, testing might start after the coding is done. A restriction of the old version of Zoho Projects was that you had to leave the Gantt Chart screen in order to add task dependencies.
Now, Zoho Projects allows you to easily add dependencies in a graphical format directly from the Gantt Chart. Simply click and hold the predecessor task bar and drag it to the dependant task, and bingo! Your task dependency is set. We reckon this will definitely speed up the process of setting dependencies as a) it is graphical and allows you to see the 'big picture of all of the tasks and how they relate to each other over a 'project timeline', and b) It allows easy drag and drop, speeding thing up for the project manager.
Time Span
The previous version of Zoho Projects used to provide the function to view tasks in Gantt Chart format over the current month, previous month, whole year or a custom period of you choice. This has been improved to now include the 'Project Span', which represents the entire timeline of the project, from start to finish. No need to remember those dates any more! This is also a great time saving feature as the Project Manager can simply set this function and see the entire project in graphical format from start to finish.
